Freight and Tank Car Repair & Cleaning
The KRS facility located in Derby, Maine is perfectly positioned to serve Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts and is the only certified tank car shop in the New England and Eastern Canada region. Our highly skilled and trained mechanical employees provide a one-stop-shop for cleaning, repair and qualifications of tank cars, pressure differential hoppers and freight cars. Our facility is served by Class I railway CP which interchanges with CN, PAS, MNR, NBSR, VTR and SLQ.
Mobile Repair Available
KRS has a certified mobile repair unit serving Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. We can handle most repairs needed to get your equipment moving again right at your location, often within 48 hours. In addition to repairs our mobile unit also offers re- railing, derailment inspections, end of lease inspections, re-stenciling projects and JIC inspections.
Tank Car Cleaning
KRS is the only North American shop that offers automated technology for cleaning tank cars and PD hopper cars that is safe, highly efficient and offers consistent cleaning outcomes.
Our newly renovated 24,000 sq ft facility at KRS features state-of-the-art cleaning system that operates up to ~20,000 psi to remove even the toughest heel. It also includes its own water treatment plant, which enables continuous washing and reuse of 90% of all water.
KRS is fully kosher certified by the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregation of America.
Rail Car Repair
At Katahdin Railcar Services’ 110 acre facility, our qualified staff utilize 56,000 sq ft of inside repair space to complete railcar inspections and repairs from airbrake tests and program work up to complete rebuilds and custom fabrication work.
Mobile Repair
KRS has mobile service and repair capabilities across New England. Our experienced staff can respond onsite, usually within 48 hours, and complete most repairs right at your location.
Freight Transportation
KRS operates a 12-mile railroad in Ohio that interchanges with Norfolk Southern and provides rail switching services for Long Ridge Energy Terminal located in Hannibal, Ohio.
KRS has the ability to manage your switching needs anywhere in the continental United States. Experienced railroad professionals can develop and implement a daily switching plan that will reduce dwell time and improve asset utilization.
